Getting Airborne
Our good friend Frank Harris
and his lovely wife picked up Chadd at 7:45 a.m. and then me at 8:00
a.m. and we headed to Salt Lake.

We arrived at the airport at about 9:20 and got in line to check our
backs. When we made it up to the desk, we were informed our connecting
flight from Atlanta to La Guardia airport in New York City had been
cancelled due to severe winter weather in Atlanta. Delta proposed to
move us onto a flight to Newark, New Jersey. We agreed and then had 15
minutes to get on the Newark flight.
It was pretty nice, really, because this way we avoided the Super
Bowl weekend mess in Atlanta and made it to New York three hours sooner
than we would have.
Arriving in NYC

Doran in the Marriot Marquis. |
After we arrived in Newark, we took a cab to our hotel -- the New York
Marriot Marquis. Once we arrived in the room, I immediately noticed the
hotel had ethernet access through STSN. I had planned to us UUNet to
get online, but this was much better. It is fast, dedicated, and
relatively inexpensive. So... I spent the first 20 minutes or so
getting the Linux laptop I brought connected to the Internet.
Exploring New York City

Chadd at Times Square |
Once we got
settled in (meaning, we got the laptop hooked up),
we ventured out into the city. The hotel looks down into Times Square,
so, logically, that is where we went first. We explored the area a
little and then decided to get something to eat.

We ate dinner at Teatro Pizza Creations. It was very
good.
